POMPEY WANT LITTLE
Tranmere Rovers boss Brian Little has emerged as a candidate for the Portsmouth job, say The Sun, after chairman Milan Mandaric ruled out John Gregory, while Gordon Strachan has reportedly said that he is not interested in the post. The former Aston Villa and Leicester boss last managed in the Premiership seven years ago and now, according to this highly reputable rag, he will risk his lower-league reputation for the tricky task of trying to keep Pompey in the top flight.
YAKUBU TO BORO
Middlesbrough have confirmed that they are in talks with Portsmouth striker Aiyegbeni Yakubu and could sign the Nigerian hitman for £7.5m. Pompey chairman Milan Mandaric said: "If he desperately wants to go, then we will accommodate him. A deal has not yet been done. There is dialogue, that's all." The 22-year-old was also a target for Newcastle but with Alan Shearer postponing his retirement for another seasson, their interest has gone cold.
NEW KID ON THE BLOCK
Both Manchester United and Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Treviso's Brazilian striker Barreto. The 20-year-old has been sensational for the Serie B club this season and has captured the attention of clubs from all over the world. Palermo are the favourites to sign Barreto, however, and the Serie A club have offered £2.75m plus a choice of two of their established strikers.
