BECK'S ULTIMATUM FOR RAMS FAITHFUL
Mikkel Beck has told Derby's disgruntled fans that he will leave unless he receives their backing as he refuses to let Monday night's stoppage-time equaliser against Southampton change his decision to look for a new club.
The Dane has hit the target just twice in six months for the Rams, whose supporters have made him the scapegoat for their poor start to the season.
Manager Jim Smith made it clear he still thinks Beck has a future at Pride Park, saying: ''I believe he can start scoring goals and I believe he'll be at Derby in the coming months.''
But the former Middlesbrough forward explained: ''It's never easy, and the fans that have been against me have been at home. To be fair, that has been one of the reasons that I think I've been struggling and that I should go if the fans didn't want me.
''I've not made the goals that people have expected, but booing me hasn't helped me. Why does it seem we play better away from home? Perhaps it's because the fans are more positive away from home. Perhaps they should be more positive at home in the future.''
He added: ''Of course this changes a lot but it doesn't change anything in one way. It's no secret I haven't been happy over the last few months, and that's on the pitch and off it.''
Beck clinched a 3-3 draw at The Dell just hours after it emerged Smith could loan the 26-year-old out in a bid to help him rediscover his goalscoring touch. The Denmark international is among a number of Derby players who have failed to hit form this season and he said: ''It's lovely to get on the scoresheet because it hasn't been easy for me lately. I've had some problems and I've needed a goal badly.
''It was just unbelievable because so few things have gone our way and especially gone my way lately that for me to score with what was virtually the last touch of the game was incredible. It was a valuable point for us, and perhaps this means there will be more goals in the future for me.
''This goal marks a step in the right direction for me, but there's still plenty of hard work to be done - although obviously I hope things will eventually work out for me. I don't know where things have gone wrong at Derby. Hopefully now it won't be as bad as it has been.''
