BECK: MORE GOALS MIGHT MAKE ME STAY
Mikel Beck scored the injury-time equaliser at The Dell on the day he was reported to have asked for a transfer - and he now says that more goals might help him to settle in Derby.
ďIíve explained to the manager in a meeting that I cannot settle at the club or in the city and that I would like to go away from Derby. Thereís nothing I can put my finger on at Derby but sometimes you just donít settle in a new place even though you really want to. That is the case here," Beck told the Derby Evening Telegraph.
ďNobody has done anything bad to me and I admire Jim Smith for his way of managing the team. Iíve been very unfortunate in the matches and havenít been able to score the goals that people have expected from me.
ďIf Iíd been 21 years old and not 26, then maybe Iíd have given it some more time before I reacted. Iím sure that Jim Smith will respect my wish to go and heís mentioned that maybe the club can loan me out to another club.
ďAt first, that didnít seem very interesting to me but now I admit it would be all right just to go for a few months. Yesterday was a good day but I need a few more of them to change my mind. If I score some goals, who knows?Ē
Jim Smith said: ''He hasn't asked me for a move but that doesn't mean anything nowadays. I had a good chat with him 10 days ago because his situation was sad. He works very hard and has had a 'mare of a time in front of goal for one reason and another.
''We felt it might be better to loan him somewhere to get him a lift or sell him. That was coming from me but I made him sub because I still feel he's got something and needed a goal and he got that tonight.
''He's missed some sitters but he's worked hard. I'm delighted for us because we got the draw and I'm delighted for him that he got the goal and I believe he can go and score more goals.''
