ATLETICO COACH RESIGNS
Ranieri Lasts Less Than One Year
ATLETICO MADRID coach Claudio Ranieri has resigned according to radio reports coming out of Spain. Atletico are going through something of a crisis-torn season with controversial owner Jesus Gil and his board of directors having been suspended in December amid allegations of misuse of club funds.
Since then, the club has been run by a government appointed administrator who has had to try to recoup some money with the sale of vital players. This turmoil has left the team, champions of Spain only four years ago, 17th in the 20 team Spanish Primera Liga and facing a fight to avoid relegation.
Ranieri joined the club in the summer after an impressive season in charge of Valencia that led to Champions League qualification. He had previously spent five years in charge of Fiorentina in his native Italy and had been speculated to be returning there next season.
